Following the murder of Gracie, Gray heads a lynch mob and uses the town’s anger for his own political gain; Mitchell Cafferty claims that Jonah Prowse is the culprit, but Mayor Green is dubious. Cliffhanger episode ending the first half of the first season of the show.
During the end of the Australian airing of the previous episode "Red Flag", an advertisement led viewers to believe that Dale will shoot Mitchell Cafferty. It also hinted at the possibility of Roger arriving in Jericho. Roger’s arrival is also suggested by Emily’s reaction in the preview of this episode, where her expression suggested she had just seen someone she did not expect to see when unknown people (probably those from the plane crash) show up. Additionally, the narrator spoke ominously about "someone or something" watching Jericho via a Google Earth-like program.

On the eve of Thanksgiving, Jake, Stanley and Jimmy are hunting for turkeys. Unsuccessful, Stanley and Jake head back to Stanley’s truck when they spot two Russian jet fighters in the sky. They look up to see several lumbering transport aircraft begin to drop large parcels by parachute.
Finding one such parcel in a field, they open it to discover that it is stocked with food. Jake notices the food’s packaging is in Chinese, and they uncover a flyer that states "Do not fight… China is your friend". Several other packages have landed in town and on the Richmond farm. Although Jake and Mayor Green are wary about whether the food is safe to eat, Gray Anderson ridicules the notion that the food could be poisoned. He eats a cookie with no ill effect and tells Mayor Green that the food should be released to the increasingly hungry residents of Jericho.
Stanley arrives home to discover that not only has Mimi already helped herself to some chocolate from a food parcel, but that that another airdropped container contains a generator. He sends Mimi off to tell Jake.
Meanwhile it is revealed that Gracie had made a deal with Jonah in order to keep her store shelves stocked. Mayor Green arrives and persuades her to not only help store the airdropped supplies for them, but to break off the deal with Jonah. Mayor Green has a tense, but non-violent, confrontation with Jonah and Mitchell, whom the mayor demands to return an item he stole from Gracie. As retribution, Jonah’s men take the two parcels from the Richmond farm, including the badly needed generator, assaulting Stanley in the process.
Mayor Green, Jake and Hawkins organise a raid on Jonah’s compound in order to retrieve the generator. However, before they can do anything Emily, who had snuck in minutes before, drives the truck carrying the generator out the front gate to the astonishment of Jake and Jonah, who orders his men not to fire. Afterwards, some of Jonah’s men, especially Mitchell, question his decision. Jonah tells them that you win some and you lose some and dares Mitchell to challenge his leadership directly, which leads Mitchell to back down for now.
Elsewhere, the relationship between Stanley and Mimi grows closer when she helps him recover from his wounds, and they later kiss after he helps her remember Thanksgiving before the bombs by mixing her a Tang and tequila drink. Eric finally learns that April is pregnant.
Hawkins returns home late for Thanksgiving dinner to face a disappointed family, which had hoped that at least this year he would be there instead of away on an assignment. Hawkins tells his family to accompany him to the center of town to see what he was working on. At the end of the episode Hawkins helps Jimmy turn on the generator. People gather in the streets to see the lights illuminate for the first time since the EMP. As Gracie closes up shop, an unknown person grabs her and stabs her with a knife. She slumps to the floor as people continue to walk by outside, unaware of her fate

From his first onscreen appearance opposite Winona Ryder in the 1996 coming-of-age tale Boys, Skeet Ulrich has invited comparisons with actors ranging from Johnny Depp to James Dean. With his cool stare and glacier-cut cheekbones, Ulrich has repeatedly been hailed as one of Young Hollywood’s hottest, brightest stars, an accolade he has attempted to live up to with steady, if uneven, work.
Born Brian Ray Ulrich on January 20, 1970, the actor was raised in North Carolina by his divorced father. Ulrich acquired his unusual nickname from a Little League coach who dubbed him "Skeeter" because he was small, like a mosquito. Following high school, Ulrich enrolled at New York University where he was "discovered" by playwright David Mamet, who invited him to join his celebrated Atlantic Theater Company as an apprentice. Ulrich performed in a number of productions, and during one of them, he was spotted by director Stacy Cochran, who cast him in an ABC Afterschool Special. Cochran then gave Ulrich his first screen role in Boys, in which he was cast as Winona Ryder’s brutish boyfriend. 1996 proved to be a prolific year for the newly discovered actor, who followed his debut with performances in The Craft (which also featured his future Scream co-star, Neve Campbell), the Sharon Stone prison drama Last Dance, Albino Alligator, and, most notably, Scream, in which Ulrich played Campbell’s unhinged boyfriend.
1997 emerged as a quieter year for Ulrich, who appeared only in a small part (that, it should be noted, was much larger before the tyranny of the cutting-room floor) in James L. Brooks’ critically acclaimed As Good As It Gets, and in the leading role in the largely unseen Touch. 1998 saw Ulrich take part in two more films: the obscure Vietnam drama A Soldier’s Sweetheart (in which Ulrich starred with his future wife, Georgina Cates) and Richard Linklater’s much-anticipated The Newton Boys, a film expected to mine box-office gold in part because of its ridiculously photogenic cast, which, in addition to Ulrich, included Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Despite such a powerful combination of tanned skin, flawless dentistry, and charmingly exuded testosterone, the film failed to find favor among critics or audiences. Ulrich’s next feature, 1999’s Chill Factor, met a similar fate, causing some to ponder what would come next for an actor who just three years earlier had been toasted as one of the most tantalizing samples that Hollywood had to offer. Ulrich fared somewhat better with Ride With the Devil: a Civil War drama directed by Ang Lee and co-starring Tobey Maguire, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Jeffrey Wright, and Jewel, it received a moderately favorable critical response.

Emily dreams of the morning of her wedding to Roger, then awakens and realizes that Roger is most likely dead. Meanwhile, outside of town, the Ravenwood mercenaries, led by Goetz, show up at the Richmond farm and steal gas for their two black Humvees. Stanley confronts them, and Goetz asks if he knows Eric. Stanley tells him he "can’t help them", and then Goetz rounds up his men and leaves. Stanley heads over to the Green house to warn Jake and Eric about them.
Anticipating the mercenaries’ arrival, Gray, Jake, and Hawkins arrange an armed checkpoint, using wrecked cars to block the bridge leading out of Jericho in the direction of Rogue River. Soon the mercenaries arrive, and a confrontation takes place. A minor firefight erupts when a town citizen nervously fires off a shot. Although no one is hurt, Goetz gives an ultimatum: Clear the bridge in four hours, or the Ravenwood men will force their way through.
Heather arrives at Emily’s house, determined to take her mind off the fact that she was supposed to be getting married. She has a hike along the river planned, but those plans are cancelled after hearing news of the impending standoff at the bridge, and that everyone is being ordered to stay indoors for their safety. Announcing that they are proceeding to "phase two," the girls head over to the bar. Mary pulls out what she refers to as "the last bottle of single malt scotch in Kansas," and Emily, Heather, and Mary get drunk to celebrate what would have been Emily’s wedding day. Emily begins a flirtatious discourse with Dr. Dhuwalia, who drowns his sorrows at Bailey’s after witnessing the death and destruction at Rogue River. He talks about his previous life in Las Vegas, and how he ended up in Rogue River. Emily continues to daydream about what her wedding day would’ve been like, visualizing all the doubts she has about her relationship with Roger and her lingering feelings for Jake.
Jake, Gray and Hawkins plan to blow up the bridge to prevent Goetz and his men from coming into town. Eric objects strongly, noting that many of Jericho’s farms are on the other side of the river, including the Richmonds’. He orders them not to go ahead, but they defy him and rig the bridge with dynamite from the mines and ANFO improvised explosives. Jake heads out to warn the people on the other side of the bridge to head into town, or risk being cut off. At the Richmond farm, Stanley and Bonnie flatly refuse to leave their home, but Mimi heads for safety.
Eric quickly discovers this and reports it to his father, who tells him to prevent the destruction of the bridge "at any cost." Eric finds Jake at the bridge, and after speaking with him drives away to the other side. Not long after, the Ravenwood men return and find Jake standing in the middle of the bridge with the detonator in his hand. He tries to persuade them to leave, but one of Goetz’ men trains a sniper rifle on him. The situation quickly escalates when Hawkins shoots the Ravenwood sniper, but suddenly Eric turns up with Jonah and his men. Caught between the two groups, Goetz and his men leave, warning that they will eventually return.

Shoshannah Stern was born in Walnut Creek, California. Along with her brother and sister, she represents the fourth generation of a deaf family. She grew up in Fremont, CA, where she attended the California School for the Deaf, Fremont, where both her parents worked and her two siblings attended. Upon graduation, her family relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Shoshannah attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, the only Liberal Arts University for deaf people in the world. There she pursued her love of theater, winning numerous awards for her performances, and continued to dream — as she had since she was a child — of becoming a professional actor.

During the winter recess of her senior year at Gallaudet, she received a random email from Warner Bros. asking her to audition for a guest-starring role on the series Off Centre. On a whim, she flew to Los Angeles, auditioned and subsequently got the role. This led to guest-starring roles on such television series as Providence, Boston Public, ER, The Division and a cameo as Matthew Broderick’s girlfriend in the feature film, The Last Shot.

While playing a rape victim on The Division opposite Marlee Matlin, she impressed the director so much he decided to create a role for her on his new show, Threat Matrix.

After Threat Matrix ended, she landed a recurring role on Weeds, the Golden Globe winning comedy, playing the girlfriend to the son of Mary-Louise Parker for two seasons. She also originated the role of Susan in Open Window at the Pasadena Playhouse to stellar reviews.

A caption establishes the episode being set a month after the attacks.
Mayor Green’s life hangs in the balance when he comes down with a severe flu. Jake and Eric decide to to to another town about 90 miles away to obtain the medicine the mayor desperately needs.
While travelling to Rogue River, Jake and Eric discover that the world outside of Jericho has changed immensely since the explosions took place. They pass a wrecked car whose driver is lying dead along the road. Eric wants to stop, but Jake points out skid marks and concludes that the car had been run off the road by bandits who could still be nearby. Jake also insists that they travel mainly on back roads instead of primary highways.
When they arrive in Rogue River, they discover that FEMA has apparently evacuated the town because of radioactive contamination of the water. The houses are all marked with FEMA codes indicating when the house was evacuated and how many persons in each house were found — dead and alive. Jake knows the code and explains it to Eric. (It is the same code used following Hurricane Katrina.) The town seems deserted.
At the Fillmore County Hospital, they park and approach the hospital when shots ring out. They run into the hospital lobby, which has been looted and is littered with many dead bodies, including what appear to be people in military-style gear. When they reach a stairwell, a defender lobs down a flashbang, which drives them back. Jake shouts to the guard, telling him that they are not hostile and that they need medicine. Jake and Eric leave their guns behind and slowly climb the stairs. A frightened guard meets them and takes them to the hospital’s only doctor, Dr. Kenchy Dhuwalia, who is working on a patient. The doctor stayed behind trying to treat all the patients too sick to move. Many patients appear to have been shot dead. The guard, Randy Payton, explains that mercenary employees of a security company called Ravenwood Solutions were brought in to assist in the evacuation because there were insufficient National Guard troops. The mercenaries apparently wanted only to loot medicines and leave. One got impatient with the cries of the sick but unmovable patients and murdered them. Randy says that he fought the others during this atrocity and the remainder left. As Jake and Eric are getting their medicine, the mercenaries return to continue looting, and a firefight breaks out after Payton fires on them. Eric poses as a doctor and manages to lull some of the mercenaries into an ambush. In the confusion, Eric leaves his wallet behind. Randy stays and is last seen firing to cover their escape. Dr. Dhuwalia returns to Jericho with Eric and Jake.

Although her earthy and somewhat plain appearance might have prevented her from landing the sort of glamorous parts Hollywood seems to reserve for A-list beauty queens, actress Pamela Reed still managed to maintain a healthy career with a series of winning supporting roles. A Washington native who spent the majority of her childhood in Maryland, Reed moved back to the Northwest for an opportunity to work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. There, she began to study drama at the University of Washington, where she stood out amongst her classmates due to her age (she was nearly 30 when she graduated and began seeking out roles in New York and L.A.). She later appeared off-Broadway in Curse of the Starving Class and impressed audiences with her performance in Aunt Dan and Lemonand her skillful interpretation of Shakespeare in All’s Well That Ends Well. In 1978, Reed made her Broadway debut in a production of The November People. With a solid stage resumé, the actress moved to the screen in Walter Hill’s 1980 Western The Long Riders. Reed could bring style and depth to even the most threadbare of roles, and in the years that followed, she made a name for herself by essaying key supporting parts in such films as Eyewitness (1981) and The Right Stuff (1983); though her characters rarely broke the mold of supportive wife/girlfriend, her performances were always graceful and believable.
Reed took a turn toward the small screen with a role in the 1990 comedy series Grand, and alternated frequently between film and television for the remainder of the decade. From her scene-stealing turn alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop (1990) to her performance as a housewife with a history in the made-for-TV mystery Woman With a Past, Reed proved equally adept at both comedy and drama. Following a memorable role in Tim Robbins’ 1992 political satire (and directorial debut) Bob Roberts, the actress returned to television in 1995 for the short-lived comedy series The Home Court. She built a sturdy fan base of Lifetime viewers with such made-for-cable features as The Man Next Door (1995), and continued to appear in such hit features as Bean (1997) and Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998). Reed later starred in the 2000 blockbuster Proof of Life, and appeared in the small-screen drama Book of Days (2003) and Glory Days in 2004. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

While the town prepares to celebrate Halloween, Gray Anderson returns after traveling outside of town and reports back on the horrific things he saw while he was away.
Upon his return, Gray confirms that Washington D.C. has been destroyed. He goes on to say that New York City has survived, and mentions that the New York Police Department found a nuclear bomb in a van minutes before it was set to explode. He also confirms that Topeka is still intact, although its citizens were dealing with the effects of fallout from an attack on nearby Lawrence. Gray also says that he encountered a vehicle from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that was carrying water to survivors in Topeka. He hitched a ride with the driver, but they were stopped outside of Topeka at a road block. Several people attacked them and pulled them out of the vehicle. Gray tells them that the driver was killed, but he managed to escape.
Having witnessed unspeakable terror, Gray is determined to protect the citizens of Jericho from danger. To this end, he wants to interrogate all the new families who came to town before or after the attacks–including Rob Hawkins. He mentions that 14 new families have moved into the city from days before the attack to current times. Eric defends Hawkins, mentioning that he’s been a great help to them so far, and he has two children.
Meanwhile, Jonah Prowse, a man with whom Jake has some history, comes back to town driving Jake’s car, and it is revealed that Jonah is Emily’s father. He says that he would like to post bail for Mitchell, who had been arrested for stealing the horses from the Greens’ stables. Jake tells him that he will release Mitchell into Jonah’s custody, but in exchange, Jonah must return the food that his men stole from the barn, and that he promise that he will stay away from Jericho. However, the town breaks the deal when Gray and Eric refuse to give up custody of Mitchell. When meeting Jonah for the exchange, Jonah has upheld his part of the bargain, but Jake is empty-handed. Later that night, Jonah sends two men to Jericho, and they break Mitchell out of the jail. Gray chases after them, until Jake stops Gray from shooting at them. Heather later scrounges up the best vehicle available, a very old pick-up truck, and Jake drives to Jonah’s compound to renegotiate. Jonah has one demand: he wants to see Emily. Jake thinks that this is impossible, because Emily would never want to see him again.
While working on Halloween preparations for the town, Emily tells Heather a bit more about her former relationship with Jake, and Heather admits to Emily that she is interested in him. Emily warns Heather to be careful: "There’s a lot about Jake that you don’t know."
